Savannah is increasingly becoming more well-known for its many great restaurants and culinary destinations from seafood restaurants to down-home cooking. In April, E! Online News even spotlighted their favorite 9 Foodie Friendly Restaurants in Savannah. This week, Savannah celebrates its food culture with the 2nd Annual Savannah Food and Wine Festival. The event started November 10th and runs through November 16th at different venues throughout the city. The festival is presented by the Tourism Leadership Council.
The Savannah Food and Wine Festival has many signature events that allows the participant interactive experiences with local and regional chefs, and culinary and wine experts. Different areas and venues in town are sponsoring events such as the River Street Stroll, Riverboat Wine and Dinner Cruises, Old World Wine and Dine, Connoisseur Wine Dinners, and Celebrity Chef Tours just to name a few. The events require special pad admission and tickets. Each of the events will feature different culinary delights of the Savannah. The Olde World Wine and Dine Experience takes place in the Warren and Washington Wards and will take you inside private, historical homes to see the importance of the ongoing historical preservation work in the city. The River Street Stroll takes you on a walk down historic River Street ending in a special event at Rousakis Square Plaza where there will be food and wine tastings. The Celebrity Chef Tour, taking place at the Mansion on Forsyth Park, will benefit the James Beard Foundation. The Celebrity Chef Tour will feature James Beard Foundation chefs showcasing their many culinary talents. There are also cooking demonstrations and classes taught by chefs and culinary experts throughout the week. The Savannah International Trade & Convention Center is hosting the Epicurean Learning Experience on Friday, November 14th with seminars and tastings by local to regional experts.
The main event of the Savannah Food and Wine Festival is the Taste of Savannah event on Saturday, November 15th. Ellis and Johnson Squares will be transformed into a foodie’s dream. The ticket to the event allows you to get food and wine samples. There will also be cooking demonstrations, hands-on learning experiences, a market, bartender’s challenge, waiter’s race and a celebrity author’s tent.
