“End of Summer” Celebrations in Savannah

Happy Labor Day from Stop N StorLabor Day is celebrated on the first Monday in September as a day off for all American Workers. The day is the annual celebration of the social and economic achievements the American work force. The holiday has its origins during the industrial revolution during the late 1880s. The extreme working conditions for young and old workers caused the labor force to join together with reformers to improve working conditions for all. Labor Day was first established as an official holiday in 1887 by the state of Oregon and other states soon signed the holiday into law. By 1894, 23 states had adopted the holiday to honor workers and soon after, Congress declared the first Monday in September as a national holiday entitling laborers to a day off. Today, Labor Day is celebrated as the “unofficial last day of summer” with picnics, parades and fireworks displays.
