Savannah plays host to the Rock n Roll Marathon

Rock n Roll Marathon Training

Get ready to Rock n Roll in the Marathon this Saturday!

Saturday, November 5, 2011, Savannah will be hosting its first Rock n Roll Marathon. This marathon tour has stops  in cities across the country and across the world! There will be a half marathon (13.1 miles) and a full marathon (26.2 miles) that will wind through the streets of downtown Savannah. The Savannah race is sold out with over 23,000 runners participating in the event. The race starts for both the half and full marathons at 7:30am at Bay and Bull Streets and ends at Forsyth Park. There is going to be quite a few road closures for the event. Parking will be limited downtown because of the out-of-town visitors, so it is important for spectators and runners to plan ahead. Stop n Stor’s  very own, Catherine Cooper will be running in the half marathon.

There is a health expo being held at the Savannah International Trade & Convention Center Halls A & B on Thursday, November 3, 2011 and Friday, November 4, 2011 in conjuncture with the marathon. Over 60 exhibitors will be offering free samples and showcasing the latest in running gear, health and nutritional information. The admission to the health expo is free.

To go along with the Rock n Roll theme, there will be more than 40 musical acts performing during the race. Bands will be stationed every mile along the course route with
the main stage being set up at the finish line (or Forsyth Park). The headliner for the concert is Carolina Liar. All concerts are free and open to the public.

This is a great event for the city of Savannah! Most hotel rooms in the city are booked
for the event. Over 30,000 people (runners and spectators) are expected to book
rooms and be in the city for the weekend. This will leave a huge economic
impact on the city. For more information on the race, check out the race’s Facebook
page. For more local information, check out keytosavannah.com. Good Luck in your half marathon, Catherine!
